What we store on your device

Three small preferences in your browser’s localStorage: your theme (light/dark), your last-viewed program tab, and whether you dismissed the sign-in reminder. No accounts, no tracking cookies of our own, nothing that identifies you.

Analytics

Page views are counted by Google Analytics 4. It sets cookies in your browser so a repeat visit can be recognised and grouped into a session, and it records which page you opened, an approximate location worked out from your IP address (country or city, not an address), and the sort of device and browser you used. It never receives your name or email, because this site never asks for either, and it is not used to build an advertising profile of you here.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics storage starts switched off and stays off unless you consent, so no analytics cookie is set. Everywhere else it starts on. You can opt out anywhere with Google’s browser add-on, and any tracker blocker stops it too. Neither breaks the site.

Everything else we count ourselves: whether the sign-in reminder was shown or dismissed, and hotel-popup opens. These are anonymous counters sent to our own endpoint (/api/e) — no IP addresses and no user identifiers are stored with them.

Advertising

Ads on this site are placed and served by Journey by Mediavine, an ad management company. Mediavine and its advertising partners use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to show and measure ads, and they may use what they learn about your browsing here and on other sites to show ads matched to your interests. The data involved is the usual set for ads: IP address, approximate location, device, browser and language. Mediavine lists its partners at mediavine.com/ad-partners.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you’ll see a consent banner before any of that happens, and if you decline you still see ads, just not personalized ones. In US states that give you the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data, a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option is offered where it applies. Anywhere, you can opt out of interest-based ads with the DAA WebChoices tool, the NAI opt-out, or a browser that sends Global Privacy Control. Requests about the data Mediavine holds go to privacy@mediavine.com. Blocking ads doesn’t break this site.

Outbound links

Booking links open Chase Travel, Amex Travel, Bilt, Capital One Travel, Citi Travel, and Leading Hotels of the World; those sites have their own privacy policies and sign-in requirements. We receive no booking data back.
